We arrived in Rome to some much welcomed warm weather. We found our hotel with little difficulty, not always the easiest thing in Rome and then we set off on foot to begin our adventure.
First we headed to Trivi Fountain, but due to some erroneous map reading we first found a mountain created by Bernini. Finally after some great pizza to fuel the mind, we discovered our intended location. This for Prue had as much meaning as the Eiffel Tower had had for Maddy and she smiled with joy just being in this beautiful location. From there we wandered the narrow streets until we came across the Panthenon. This was as amazing as we had imagined. The wonderful thing about Rome is the things you uncover on your walks. There are many wonderful churches that you uncover and we found a shop that resembled the workshop Pinocchio was created in. Maddy made a purchase here of which she is very proud.
On day two we headed straight to the Collesum and were blown away by the scale of it. The rain fell but it could do nothing to dampen our spirits as we climbed the steps of this colossal structure. The hours flew by and all too soon it was time to leave and head across town on the Metro for Vaticcan City. We didn’t have time to visit the Sistine Chapel (next trip) but St Peter’s Basillica was absolutely breathtaking. Amazingly our time in Rome was already at an end and we headed back to our hotel which had reception in one building, our room in another and the breakfast room across the road. This is truly an amazing city and one we all want to visit again.
