Christmas Day
How to ruin a well thought out plan. Stay next to an RER station that goes directly to Disney, only to find out the line will be closed due to strikes.
How to save it, taxi, no other option.
That said we arrived at Disneyland at 9 30 on Christmas day, with the prospect of 12 hours in front of us and so much to do.
Buzz Lightyear was our first port of call and we were soon helping him fight Zurg and the alien forces. It was a nice, gentle way to start the day, but things were about to heat up. Due to the early time of the day lines were short. What better time to head to the most popular attraction space Mountain. Prue in her vast wisdom decided this wasn’t the ride for her, but Joseph and Maddy had no such apprehensions. Problem, that means I wasn’t allowed the luxury of having reservations either. For those who have no prior knowledge of this ride it is a rollercoaster that shoots you very quickly into a dark room, where you occasionally have the luxury of lights usually as a wall is looming and then you corkscrew at regular intervals. Maddy did intend to give us an eye witness account of her ride, but regrettably her eyes were sealed shut for the duration. Joseph on the other hand had his eyes wider open than they had been in the previous 14 years.
As the day wore on we zigzagged across the park riding as many rides as we could; Pirates of the Caribean, The Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Pinocchio and the old river steamer were just some of the rides we went on.
During the cause of the day Maddy met with Robin Hood and Eyeore, and she was joined by Joseph and myself to have a photo taken with Rafiki from the Lion King.
Not all of the day was spent on our feet though. We sat in the cinema to experience “Honey I shrunk the audience” and then as the day wound on Joseph, Maddy and myself went on Star Tours. This flight simulator based on the Star Wars movies was a huge thrill. For anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to travel at Light speed or to blow up the Death Star this is the ride for you.
The day finally ended with a return to the Buzz LightYear ride where we finished the day in the same manner that it started.
25 December 2009 was far from a typical Christmas Day, but it is certainly one that will remain in our memories for a long, long time.
